How to detect the Pistachio Size?
Taking the sample
One 40ft. container of pistachio contains 500 bags of 50kg. we take samples from almost 10% of bags to cover the whole of the cargo. on average we have 5kg of the sample after that.
Mix and Minimize the sample
Refer to the video to see how to mix and minimize the sample continuously to reach about 300 grams of the sample.
Weight 283 grams of the sample
To calculate the ounce we can weigh 283 grams (Approximately 10 ounces) of the sample, then divide the pistachios into 5 pieces groups, count the batches at the end and divide it by 2, you will reach a number which is the exact size of the sample. or you can divide the whole 283 grams of pistachio into 10 pieces batches from the beginning. the result will be the same.
Note
- Remember you should take the sample completely by chance.
- For closed-shell pistachio, use the sampling rod to take the sample from the bags before sewing, this equipment helps you to get the sample with more precision.
- Remember to take about 500 grams of the sample as the Control Sample with you.
After figuring out the size of the pistachio, proceed to find out the other items of specification for both natural open and closed-shell pistachio.
