How to analyze the sample of Closed Shell Pistachio?
Taking the sample
One 40ft container of pistachios contains 500 bags of 50kg. We take samples from almost 10% of bags to cover the whole of the cargo. On average, we have 5kg of the sample after that.
Analyzing the sample
After specifying the size of the pistachio, proceed to count and calculate the percentage of the other items, such as those adhering to the skin, midgets, colored, stained, and… I tried to show each of them in detail in the video.
Finding out the Kernel Ratio (%)
Extract 100 grams of the sample, break it, and weigh the kernels to determine the kernel percentage.
Note
- Remember not to count the pieces, weigh them, and figure out the percentage! (Some items are smaller)
- The sample is gathered and minimized carefully, try to take care of it, nothing should be removed from the sample, even the existing dust.
- For closed-shell pistachios, use the sampling rod to take the sample from the bags before sewing. This equipment helps you get the sample with more precision.
- Remember to count blank pieces and atrophy kernels. If the percentage increases significantly, it may negatively impact the pistachio kernel ratio.
- Remember to take about 500 grams of the sample as the Control Sample with you.
