There was once, upon a time, a man named Ahmad Agha who resided in “ANAR, KERMAN.” Daily, he was grafting pistachio trees. As a result of his actions, a new type of high-quality pistachio tree was created. By grafting multiple types of pistachio trees together, “Akbar Agha” established a new breed of pistachio. Due to his surname, “Akbar Tajabadi,” this became known as the “Akbari pistachio.”
Super Long Pistachio is another name for Long Akbari Pistachio. The form of the pistachio inspired this name. This is Iran’s most expensive and oldest variety of pistachio. This variety is more expensive than others, as it is larger than other pistachio varieties, even larger than the Jumbo Pistachio. Because of its shape, this pistachio has a very high demand on the local market. This kind of pistachio is growing in Anar city, where the weather is warm during the day and cool at night. They also grow in Rafsanjan and Kerman.
The Akbari pistachio tree blooms later than any other pistachio tree, so it grows later. Unlike most specimens, which are ready to harvest in early to mid-September, the Akbari ones should be harvested in late September.

Akbari (Super Long Pistachio) characterize
Akbari is more difficult to grow than other varieties, and the pistachio tree needs a lot of attention. It is prone to pests since it is ready to be harvested later and may heat up if not properly cared for. Furthermore, very long pistachios with 142.7 g have the highest 100-nut weight value, resulting in large-sized marketable nuts. Due to its higher salt tolerance than Kale Ghoochi or Fandoghi, Akbari has the potential to grow in restricted farmland. Akbari is a highly sought-after pistachio cultivar due to its desirable qualities, which include well-formed elongated shape nuts that are readily separated from shells, as well as a large and tasty kernel.
The Pistachio shell has a pale cream tint by nature. The Akbari shell, on the other hand, is darker and closer to cream than the others. It also has brownish markings on the shell that are natural. It is one of the long-shaped forms of pistachios, as its name suggests.
The fruit is almond-shaped and rectangular, with a dark cream skin hue.
- The kernel weight of the green-skinned fruit is around 4.8 g.
- Weight of green without skin: 29/80 g
- 75 g to 1/45 g dry weight
- 12,22 mm dry length

Why Super Long Pistachio?
It has a crisp and highly pleasant taste if it is fresh and thoroughly roasted, which is one of the reasons for its appeal. The Akbari pistachio is long and elegant, giving it a more opulent appearance. The skin of the Akbari pistachio (ultra-long pistachio) is easier to peel and does not require much effort.
Valid EU standard certificates are difficult to come by for this sort of pistachio.
Because health standards are the most important issue for EU countries, and aflatoxin certification is the most difficult, and because Akbari pistachios remain on the tree longer than other pistachios until they are harvested and the last days of the harvest season, the majority of Aflatoxin pests are absorbed by this type of pistachio. At the same time, exporting it to India and the Arab world is a viable alternative. This variety of pistachio has a large domestic and international customer base. In addition, more than 80% of Iran’s Akbari is exported. Akbari, also known as premium pistachio, is more expensive than regular pistachios.
